#REPOST from our friends across the pond: BRIDES MAGAZINE

Coral colours
Pantone has announced it’s colour of 2019 is a bright, sunny, pinky-orange named ‘Living Coral’. A cheery tone that’s perfect for weddings, coral is a fantastic hue to incorporate into a sunny summer wedding via everything from coral coloured flowers, bridesmaids dresses, cakes, makeup and colour schemes.

A return to simple and classic wedding dresses
Minimalists can rejoice because 2019 heralds the return of classic designs and simple styles. And of course, the poster girl for this trend is Meghan Markle and her striking yet simple bracelet-sleeved, bateau-necked ceremony gown and halter neck reception dress. For this style, tailoring is key, as is finding the right silhouette to suit your shape. Nail both and you’ll be well on your way to modern princess bride realness.

Bringing the outdoors in
For 2019 weddings, greenery continues to be a classic go-to shade, with flowers and foliage becoming more organic and lush. “Trees and use of foliage throughout floral designs will take centre stage,” describes wedding planner Bruce Russell. “Florals will be natural, whimsical and romantic.”

Opulent wedding cakes
We’ve seen a lot of amazing wedding cakes, but 2019 will welcome even more impressive creations. 2018’s royal weddings are likely to inspire couples to make more opulent choices. Metallic touches, personalised monograms and regal piping will be on everyone’s cake agenda. Even more exciting are the amazing array of textures we’re expecting – rippled icing, decorative finishes and show-stopping sugar flowers will take guests’ breath away. It’s all about bespoke – let the your imagination soar and the magic begin.

Three-piece suits for grooms
After years of wedding trainers and loose-fitting shirts, according to menswear expert Dominic Trooper from The Wedding Gallery, 2019 is the year we’ll see grooms suiting up in their best three-piece.
“The styles will be sharper than ever,” says Dominic. “An impeccably tailored and flawlessly fitted design will work perfectly for a super sleek ceremony showpiece. As formalities end and the party really starts, the jacket can be removed and shirt sleeves pushed up for a cool, confident and more relaxed look.” See more 2019 grooms suit trends.

Eco-conscious and ethical weddings
It was an important factor at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, and it’s going to be an equally important factor going forward for couples in 2019. From foam-free flower installations to wedding dresses that use ethical practices and wedding cakes made of locally sourced ingredients, the options for hosting an eco-conscious and ethical wedding are rising.

Scenting your wedding
Candles have always been a wedding favourite for creating a romantic mood. To further enhance this, we’re seeing more and more guests opt for their favourite scented candles (or even creating their own scents), to really transform their wedding’s ambiance, and also create a scented memory that they can enjoy and reminisce for years to come.

Illustrated Invitations
With wedding invitations being one of the few forms of mail we receive these days (or at the very least, the most exciting!), guests are making the most of their wedding stationery by commissioning hand-illustrated designs.
“It makes the stationery really personal and is a great way to get your guests excited about the big day,” says Florence Pickard Price of Beija Flor Studio. According to Vaishali Shah, a Designer at Ananya Cards, it’s now common for illustrations to be used throughout a wedding stationery suite. “And can even be used as a unifying narrative throughout the décor.”

Colourful confetti
There’s no denying the Insta-factor still plays a part in wedding planning. And while the wedding hashtag has become all but mainstream now, the new focus is perfecting that wow-worthy confetti moment. The more confetti and colour the better!

Banquet tables with low florals
Another Insta-loving trend we’re seeing is swapping the round tables and tall centerpieces for long banquet tables with rows of low flowers. Guests can see each other, the happy couple can sit in the middle without feeling like they are on display, and it makes for wonderful photos. Win!

The rise of bridesmen and groomsgirls
This year we saw more and more couples employ their nearest and dearest, regardless of gender, to join them in celebrating their big day. Bridesmen, groomsgirls, flower grandmas (instead of flower girls), and best women; the traditional wedding roles are now seen more as a guide than a rule. Read more about the rise of the bridesman.

Alternative engagement rings
Proving not all girls want a diamond as a best friend, we’ve seen a rise in alternative engagement rings styles. Opal engagement rings are having a moment, as are colourful stones, such as Princess Eugenie’s blush-pink sapphire engagement ring. Grazing tables
Doing away with waiters serving traditional canapés, grazing tables (usually featuring cheese, meats and fruits), are presented like a work of art, ensuring your guests never go hungry and your Instagram will never be without likes.

Grasses
Another interpretation of the ‘bringing the outdoors in’ trend, is by using grasses instead of foliage to decorate your wedding. Ideal if you’re attracted to a neutral colour scheme, or wanting an updated bohemian aesthetic, pampas grass appears incredibly romantic when used to decorate arches and aisles.
