This weeks vendor spotlight: Halima with Lively Events!

We are so lucky to know so many great vendors all around Seguin, New Braunfels, Austin and San Antonio. Lively Events just so happens to be local and right down the road from us in New Braunfels. We got the chance to ask Halima, the creator of Lively Events, a couple of questions listed below.

1. Tell us a little bit about how you decided to get into the wedding industry.

-I started planning weddings for friends and family about ten years ago. I was really motivated to start my own company and do this full time after a disaster with the coordinator at my own wedding. My day of coordinator started my wedding ceremony before I even had my dress on and I had no idea! My poor groom was standing at the alter for 20 minutes thinking I was going to run and no one told me. (I’m pretty sure this is covered in wedding planning 101- Don’t start the wedding without the bride!)

After that I knew I couldn’t let another bride go through that or any other wedding day disaster that can be avoided. I opened Lively Events 5 years ago and have loved every minute of it!

2. What did you do before starting your company?

-I actually have my degree in elementary education. As much as I love the little ones, I knew I needed a creative outlet and I needed to pursue my true passion, weddings.

3. Why should couples hire a wedding planner?
-There are so many little details you would never even think about on your wedding day! If you don’t hire a full service planner, you at least need a day of coordinator.

Who’s going to line up the parents, grandparents and bridal party before the ceremony?
Who’s going to cue the dj and open the doors for you when it’s go time?
Who is going to light candles for cocktail hour while you and your family are taking pictures?
These are just a few of the little details that we take care (on top of all the big stuff like coordinating with the dj and photographer all night) of that often get over looked.

4. Cost can be a huge deal breaker for many couples working with a wedding planner. What would you tell brides and grooms about the cost of your services?

-Your investment in a wedding planner or day of coordinator is definitely worth it! With us you get to relax and your family can relax and actually enjoy the day. We do all the running around behind the scenes for you. Ask any bride who didn’t have a coordinator at her wedding and she’ll tell you she wish she had hired one!

5. When someone is looking for a planner, what are some good questions to ask?

-You definitely want to get a good vibe and get along with your planner. You’ll be working so closely with them throughout the whole process. (And in some cases she may even hold your dress for you when you have to pee.) A few other questions are-

How many planners will be there on the wedding day?
Will the planner run the rehearsal?
What happens will all of our stuff at the end of the night?
What happens if you are sick on your wedding day?

6. There are so many vendors to choose from on a wedding day, how can you help the couple choose the best ones?

-I have great relationships with several vendors in the area at varying price ranges. I always pair brides with the right vendors based on style, budget and personalities.

7. You have launched a new subscription box for brides recently, Lively Wedding Box. Could you tell us more about that?
-Yes, I am so excited about this project! Lively Wedding Box is a monthly subscription box for brides. Each month you’ll get 5-7 bridal themed items sent straight to your door for the duration of your subscription. Some things we’ve sent to brides are champagne glasses, t shirts, slippers, wedding and shower decor, cow books and bath bombs.

8. What is your favorite trend in the current wedding industry?
-There are so many! I am loving cheesecloth runners, mariachis, beer burros, live paintings and signature cocktails!

9. What are some tips you have for brides and grooms planning their wedding?

-Remember to have fun! This day is all about you. Don’t have the stuffy chicken if you don’t want it. Have the fajitas and a churro bar! You only get to do this once so make it about you and the things you love.
